Sunday Meetings - 2008

.

December 28

Randy Miller will speak on the topic "Real Story of the Ancient Israelites I" - A film of archeological discovery for viewing and discussion.

December 21

Jack Wilkinson will continue the topic "Layers of Christmas II" - The second layer of Christmas involves Nicholas of Myra, whom I call the last magical Christian. We shall examine what that means and also speculate as to how he achieved immortality. The third layer of Christmas, which involves General Booth of the Salvation Army, Charles Dickens and Dylan Thomas, we may not have time for.

December 14

Jack Wilkinson will speak on the topic "Layers of Christmas I" - The first layer of Christmas incorporates the Winter Solstice as Earth's inhalation of her own spirit and the births of the two Jesus children. Further perspective is gained through the two Madonnas, the Beloved Disciple, and the leading wonderworker of the time, Nicholas of Tyana.

December 7

Randy Miller will speak on the topic "Fractals" - This new geometry, a geometry of nature, has already been introduced by our presenter. This Sunday the journey continues.

November 30

Two Mystery Members will be on the "Hot Seat: Two for the SeeSaw" - one of whom has already volunteered and another that will have been selected by ballot. They will field questions of a religious, philosophical or political nature. Perhaps a dialogue between them will ensue.

November 23

Open Discussion

November 16

Jack Wilkinson will speak on the topic "Six Values: Truth, Beauty, Goodness, Freedom, Justice and Love" - The Platonic values of Truth, Beauty and Goodness plus the Jacobin values of Freedom, Justice and Love provide us with a perfect field of Six, because when placed in a circle each value is sixty degrees from its neighbor on either side. The philosopher Mortimer Adler attempted such a display, but he erred in a way that I shall explain. How is such precision possible?

November 9

Bill Patton will speak on the topic "Third History Installment: The Religion of George Washington" - What was the Father of our Country anyway? Was he a Deist like Franklin, an Anglican like King George or a Unitarian like John Adams? Come and find out .
